This tradition, lauded as their favorite political event by Governor Murphy, Assemblyman Mukherji and others who have participated, features no speeches, politicians who try to be funny and sometimes are, all helped along by cocktails, food, excellent company and a promise of belly laughs from the professional comic for whom the Funniest Politician Contest is the warm up act.
Last year Liz Gilbert, Executive Director of the NJ Democratic State Committee, had the audience rolling in laughter as she took home the coveted prize on behalf of Governor Murphy. This year’s lineup features Senator Bob Smith, Speaker Craig Coughlin, Assemblymen Andrew Zwicker, Roy Freiman and Joe Danielsen, Senator Linda Greenstein, Assemblywoman Linda Carter, Freeholder candidate Melonie Marano, Sheriff candidate Darrin Russo, Bound Brook Councilmen Tony Pranzatelli, Vinnie Petti, Assemblyman John Wisniewski, and many more! Liz Gilbert or the Governor will be there to defend his title.
Then at 8:00 PM, NJ home grown comedian Kevin Israel will take the stage as the event’s headliner.
This event will certainly be one you do not want to miss!
“Comedy and Cocktails is a fantastic tradition that we have been honing for many years now,” stated SCDC Chairwoman Peg Schaffer. “It’s our informal kickoff to the 2019 campaign season and a great event to see our politicians and elected officials letting their hair down and just having fun competing with each other.
